Lead Vocals / Drums
Shaan fell in love with music at just five years old, singing along to songs in the car and discovering the joy of connecting with others through music. Though he began as a drummer, it didn’t take long for him to realize his passion for singing, inspired by legendary voices like Freddie Mercury—whom he considers the greatest singer of all time. His influences range from The Beatles and Queen to OneRepublic, Coldplay, and Fall Out Boy, shaping his own sound: pop-rock with a touch of soul.
Together with his twin and older brother, Shaan formed Swami 3, starting out in small venues and growing into larger stages. Along the way, he studied drums with Phil Surtees and honed his voice with the San Francisco Boys Chorus beginning in 2015, performing with the San Francisco Opera, and later performing with his high school choir. These experiences built the foundation for the confident, expressive performer he is today.
Shaan has had the thrill of performing at iconic venues such as Golden Gate Bandshell, Haight Ashbury Street Fair, Sweetwater Music Hall, and most memorably, Chase Center, where Swami 3 played for thousands of people in their biggest performance yet. He’s proud of the band’s growing recognition - including being featured twice in the San Francisco Chronicle - and excited about one of their newest songs, “Rise Up”, a hopeful anthem reflecting his goal: to create uplifting, empowering music that inspires people to live authentically and not let others define their path.
With aspirations to collaborate with AJR, Hozier, or the Jonas Brothers, Shaan shares their commitment to heartfelt lyrics and energetic live performances. For him, music is both an exploration and a challenge - to bring more authentic instrumentation back to pop while pushing himself and his band to become stronger musicians.
Offstage, Shaan is an avid reader and book collector—his house overflowing with books of all genres. Most of all, he credits his parents as his greatest inspiration, recognizing that their dedication and hard work made everything possible for him and his brothers.
Shaan’s voice, vision, and drive fuel Swami 3’s mission: to inspire, to connect, and to bring rock energy and authenticity back into pop music.
Shaan participated in the SFArtsEd / SFBATCO collaborative summer performance of "I, Too, Sing America," after which Shaan was invited to join the 2023-24 middle school musical theater ensemble SFArtsEd Players. Stay tuned for his next performance in the Presidio Theater April 5-7, 2024.
