About Shaan

Shaan has a passion to entertain. Because of this personality, his parents chose drums as his first instrument to learn when he was just 4 years old. It soon became clear that he also loved to sing, as he hummed along to music while doing homework, and belted out a variety of tunes in any free time, with striking clarity (and volume!). At the recommendation of friends, Shaan joined the San Francisco Boys Chorus (SFBC) in January 2016 and was promoted to their Intermediate Collegium level as a soprano in just over 3 years. With SFBC he had the opportunity to sing a solo with the world-famous Chanticleer men's acapella group in their 2018 winter concert, and he worked professionally in the SF Opera's production of Hansel & Gretel in November 2019. When the family moved to Singapore during the start of the pandemic, Shaan took the opportunity of having no choral commitments to further develop his individual vocals as part of Swami 3, where he shines as the lead singer & drummer.

Shaan was a dedicated member of the swim team at The Olympic Club until this year, when ongoing health issues forced him to change directions. Luckily, he took to playing squash "like a duck to water" and is loving his new sport.  Shaan continues to train with San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater (young conservatory) and SFArtsEd Players (middle school musical theater ensemble).  Shaan is currently an 8th-grader at Chinese American International School. In his free time, he loves to read.

Interesting fact: Like another famous singer, Shaan had four extra top front teeth. Shaan luckily held onto his vocal range after undergoing two surgeries to achieve his winning smile.
